Felt Right, But It Was Wrong

Minutes ticked away poignantly, hours turned into days
Thoughts spinning, her stare caught in a blank daze
Appearances had her hoping, wishing in so many ways
Mostly he had her believing, that he’s the kind that stays

‘I Love You’ that is a rather overly misused phrase
She now has ears deaf to any man who’ll say it to her face

All the memories of the past were painfully erased
Lest he apologizes for what he did, the pain he caused

He didn’t change who she was, he destroyed who she could be
She readily admitted to herself, that she was too blinded to see
There’s no such thing as forever on this earth, it just can’t be
What wrong did she commit, what are the signs she didn’t see

She will heal in time, the recurring pain of love lost
Prey to deceitful charm, he pursued her at any cost

Itching regret of time wasted, moments when it all looked rosy
She lies on the bed chastened, holding her white pillow closely

Is the pain the essence of love, could she love without being hurt
Is betrayal the evidence of lies, could she possibly have seen that
Is trust the absence of reason, could she have protected her heart

She hurts in silence, sadness, pain, self-pity, heartbroken, damaged….
